Flying west for races shifts the problem from early mornings to disrupted sleep cycles. I’ve found it easier to manage by staying up later the night before the race rather than trying to force early sleep. The goal isn’t extra rest, but alignment—offsetting a 3 a.m. race-day wake-up so it feels closer to normal. When it works, race morning feels less like an alarm and more like a continuation.
